Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this trip suitable for?

The Kayak Trip is ideal for sporty couples, groups of friends, and solo travelers aged 16 and above.

Because of daily endurance requirements on open water, this expedition is not suitable for children under 16. Solo adventurers join every week and find a welcoming, adventurous community on the water.

Guides

Experienced, English-speaking kayak guides accompany you and remain on hand throughout the expedition. They monitor weather and fjord conditions, guide the daily kayaking routes and scenic ridge hikes, and provide safety support along the way. You’ll also have access to the Travelbase app, where you’ll find all the information you need for your trip.

What are the booking conditions?

When making a booking, you can choose how much flexibility you want. Check the different booking conditions, as well as the corresponding payment, modification and cancellation conditions.

Which types of kayaks are used on the fjords?

We use single and double expedition sea kayaks, equipped with spray decks for paddling in the fjords.

Both options offer stability, storage space for your gear, and reliable tracking to help you stay on course. You can choose a single or double kayak when booking your trip.

What is the difference between the Nærøy route and Aurlands route?

The Nærøy route is our standard route for active adventurers looking for a sporty kayaking experience. The Aurlands route is longer and more physically demanding, making it best suited to experienced kayakers or very sporty participants.

Both routes offer breathtaking fjord scenery, but the Aurlands route requires greater paddling endurance and includes longer stretches of open water.

What specific things should I pack?

Pack light for your kayak trip and keep your clothing and gear waterproof in dry bags, each with a maximum capacity of 30 liters. Kayak storage is divided into several smaller compartments rather than one large cargo bay, so smaller dry bags are essential.

Check our official The Kayak Trip packing list for everything you need to bring. Any extra travel bags can be left safely at basecamp.
