Ready for an 8-day paddle & hike adventure in Norway?
Discover the spectacular Norwegian fjords in a unique way: from the water in your own kayak and from above while hiking! In the evenings, you'll camp in the most beautiful spots of the Nærøyfjord.
Embark on an unforgettable kayaking adventure and explore every corner of the Nærøyfjord, the deepest and most famous of the Norwegian fjords. Valleys with crystal-clear water, embraced by steep mountain slopes, will transport you to landscapes that feel like another world!
Paddle across the calm waters of the fjord and experience the history of this region, where the Vikings once left their mark.
When booking, you can choose both a kayak (single or double) and a route. Thanks to a briefing from the guide, where you'll learn all about kayaking and the interactive app, you'll start your adventure fully prepared.
During The Kayak Trip, you'll be camping in a tent: on the first and last night, you'll stay at the base camp, where you have access to facilities. The other nights, you'll spend in the heart of the fjords surrounded by beautiful nature.
In Norway, the right to roam allows for wild camping as a basic right. However, it can sometimes be a challenge to find nice and accessible sleeping spots in the steep valleys of the fjords. That's why our guide will point out a campspot in nature for you every day, where you can fully relax and enjoy breathtaking views.
You can choose from 2 different routes. Both routes give you the chance to explore the fjords from the water and from above. All hikes are optional, so you can decide on the spot how intense you want your trip to be.
On the Nærøy route, you'll cover about 65 km with your kayak, reaching as far as Undredal, and you can add up to 60 hiking kilometers.
The Aurlands route takes you all the way to the famous Flåm. You'll paddle a total of about 100 km with your kayak and can add around 60 hiking kilometers to your journey.
*Note: these routes may change due to weather conditions.
You can let us know which route you want to take while booking, but you can also change it later (even on-site). So don’t worry if you’re not sure right now.
Below you'll find an example of a well-balanced weekly schedule for both routes. You'll discover the most beautiful highlights, while the route offers plenty of variety between kayaking and hiking.
*Note: these routes may be subject to change due to weather conditions.

This summer, we're offering round-trip flights from the airport in Amsterdam (Schiphol Airport) or the airport in Brussels (Zaventem Airport) to Norway (Bergen Airport). The flights perfectly align with the travel schedule and include an airport shuttle to and from the base camp.
You can choose to book your flight and shuttle as a package with us.
Are our flights sold out? No worries! You can also book the trip without flights and arrange your own flight. Just a heads up: in that case, you'll need to book the airport shuttle separately.
Optionally, you can add checked baggage for €55.

The Kayak Trip Basecamp is located in Fresvik, a charming but remote village. Are you flying to Norway independently? The easiest option is to take our shuttle from Bergen airport. After a week of adventure, we'll bring you back to the airport with the same shuttle.
The airport shuttle picks you up for €95 at Bergen airport and drops you off a week later. If you booked your flight with us, this shuttle is always included. Otherwise, you can add it on (round trip).
Keep in mind, if you are booking your own flights, that your flight times align with the shuttle times; otherwise, you'll need to arrange your own transportation to the basecamp.

Our base camp is located in Fresvik, a small village in the middle of nowhere. The easiest way to get here is by plane and our shuttle. Explore the different options to reach our base camp and choose the one that suits you best.
Exploring the Norwegian fjords alone by kayak isn't easy. However, with the support of our experienced kayak guides and the Travelbase app, the adventure is within reach.
Additionally, you can choose to rent a food pack and camping gear from us, so you don't have to bring anything yourself.
In just one week, you'll get to see the most beautiful highlights of the Nærøyfjord.
Surrounded by steep cliffs and crystal-clear water, you'll enjoy the majestic beauty of the fjords from your kayak. During the hikes, you'll experience breathtaking views of untouched Norwegian nature.
Since The Kayak Trip isn't the easiest journey to plan completely on your own, you'll get a well-balanced week itinerary included.
We create the ideal schedule for both routes, with plenty of variety between hiking and paddling. In the end, you decide how many hikes to add to your trip and how intense each day will be.
Unfortunately, you can no longer book a Kayak Trip this summer.

During this trip, you'll sleep seven nights in a tent that you bring along or rent from us. On the first and last night of the trip, you'll stay at the Kayak Trip basecamp in Fresvik, where you have access to sanitary facilities. All other nights, you'll be sleeping in the most beautiful spots of the Nærøyfjord.
On the water, "in the middle of nature", there are no showers or toilets. If you take the longer route, you'll spend a night in the middle of the week at a campsite in Flåm, where there are sanitary facilities. You'll find plenty of opportunities along the way to make necessary pit stops and refill your water bottle.
At The Kayak Trip, you can order an Adventure Foodpack. This is highly recommended for both vegetarians (€107) and meat-eaters (€111), and it consists of compact meals.
Those who order the foodpack will receive 1 fresh meal at the basecamp at the beginning of the trip, 18 freeze-dried meals, and 3 desserts to prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner in nature. You’ll also get a handy cooking set (including a cooking pot, gas burner, gas canister, and utensils).
The foodpack provides all meals; all you need to bring is a lighter and some tasty and nutritious snacks for during your paddling or hiking adventures.
The salty seawater of the Fjords is not drinkable. Along the route, you can refill your water supply at the various waterfalls you pass by.
You can rent all your camping gear (sturdy tent, insulating mat, & warm sleeping bag) from us for €79 per person. This way, you can be sure of having good equipment that fits in the kayak's dry compartment, and you won’t have to take it with you on the plane.
Of course, you can also bring your own camping gear. Just make sure your tent is sturdy, lightweight, and compact, and that it is weather-resistant. Your mat and sleeping bag should also be suitable for the wet and sometimes cold nights in the fjords.
A team of experienced kayak guides is always on hand for you. They know all the routes and have chosen the most beautiful hikes and cozy spots for you and your fellow travelers. Plus, they'll guide you effortlessly and safely through the sometimes high waves and challenging weather conditions in the fjords.
Thanks to the SOS button in our own Kayak Trip app, help can be quickly summoned in case of an emergency.
If you book a flight with us, it includes a piece of hand luggage (max. 55 x 35 x 25 cm) and an accessory (e.g., a handbag or laptop, max. 40 x 30 x 15 cm) with a total max. weight of 12kg.
For €55, you can add a piece of checked baggage (max. 23kg and max. 158cm L+B+H) for both the outbound and return flights. However, we recommend staying under 15 kg, as space in the kayak is limited.
Do you have any other questions about the flights? Check out the Travelbase Flights Help Center.
The average age of our travelers is 32 years.
This trip is perfect for sporty couples, groups of friends, and solo travelers. Families are also welcome, but we advise against this trip for children under 16 years old. There is no discount for minors.
We receive enthusiastic individual travelers every week who are eager to make new friends. Want to get to know each other a bit before you leave? Check out The Kayak Trip Facebook group or feel free to post a message yourself.
The Kayak Trip is a sporty challenge: You paddle for 6 days on the water while also going on various hikes. That's why this trip is perfect for adventurers with a good fitness level and a love for the outdoors, no matter the weather.
No kayaking experience is needed – your guide will provide full instructions and a safety briefing. However, for safety reasons, it is required that you have at least a swimming diploma A.
You can choose how many hikes you do and how many kilometers you cover. The steep walls of the fjords make some hikes quite challenging if you’re not used to hiking regularly. Therefore, we recommend doing a bit of training before your trip to get the most out of this Kayak Trip in Norway.
If you’re looking for a more relaxed paddling adventure in a less rugged landscape, then The Canoe Trip might be just your thing!
At the beginning of the trip, the group is split into smaller teams per guide. Due to the sometimes challenging conditions on the water, most participants choose to follow the guide. In the evenings, everyone sleeps at the designated overnight spot, as it's not easy to find a good sleeping place among the steep walls of the fjords.
In case of thunderstorms, storms, or high waves, the guide may decide that everyone should stay with their team to ensure safety.
Do you want to be fully covered until the moment of departure? Then choose our regular cancellation insurance (€ 59) when booking.
You can find all the conditions of our cancellation insurance here.
If you booked early and received our Superflex booking conditions for free, you can change or cancel your booking for free until April 1, 2025 without needing to provide a reason.
For your Kayak Trip, you can choose between 2 routes: “Nærøy Route” & “Aurlands Route”. You can indicate your preference while booking, but this is not mandatory.
Only pack what you really need. Go for compact, high-quality, and waterproof gear. You can use our handy packing list to check things off. This way, you can be sure that everything fits and that you're not making the journey harder than it needs to be.
Additionally, the storage space in the kayak is divided into several smaller compartments. So, choose smaller duffel bags and dry bags of max. 30 liters instead of a large trekking backpack.
Are you still bringing a large backpack or suitcase on the plane? No problem! You can safely leave it at the base camp.
The planet offers us so much beauty to admire, but if we want to continue enjoying it in the future, we need to protect it today. That's why we make extra efforts to reduce the impact of our trips, and you can contribute reliably to a climate project by Greentripper in the booking form, which balances out the CO2 emissions from your transport. By contributing to their certified project “Wildlife Cambodia,” you help protect beautiful forests and the wildlife within them, support local communities, and reduce the CO2 emissions from your transport. If you choose to contribute to offsetting your transport emissions, Travelbase will additionally contribute to the emissions on-site. After your trip, you'll receive an official carbon credit certificate.

Trolls are giant creatures from Scandinavian folklore. They can't stand the sound of church bells, which is why they live far from civilization in the high mountains and deep forests.
Since you'll be camping in nature during The Kayak Trip, you might hear their echoes resonating through the fjords just after sunset. Trolls turn to stone in sunlight, so they only come out at night. Because they are so common in Norse mythology, it's best to stay on guard...
